Result 1 – 1
- Collection identifier: 2021-04
- Primary contributor: VèVè Clark (researcher)
- Language: Haitian Creole (hat)
- Dates: possibly 1973
- Extent: 2 master reel tapes
- Historical information: The two tapes constituting this collection were found among tapes formerly held by the Berkeley Language Center (BLC). The boxes include the lettering LA, for Language Archive, the BLC's identifier for language recordings, but lack a number, suggesting they were never cataloged; the boxes also include the surname Clark. The recordings thus seem to stem from the work of VèVè Amasasa Clark (1944-2007), who received her PhD in French from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983 with a dissertation entitled "Fieldhands to Stagehands in Haiti: The Measure of Tradition in Haitian Popular Theatre," and who was later Associate Professor of African American Studies at Berkeley. In the introduction to the dissertation, Clark describes traveling to Haiti in 1973, hence the tentative date reported here. Item-level descriptions were facilitated by Tidiri Mede and Michel DeGraff.
