    • Historical information: Victor Golla is Professor of Anthropology at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. He received bachelor's (1960) and doctorate (1970) degrees in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. His doctoral dissertation was a grammar of the Hupa language based on archival sources and original field research conducted from 1962-1964. He subsequently published widely on a variety of topics in Athabaskan linguistics and edited several volumes of Edward Sapir's collected works, including a collection of Hupa texts and related materials collected by Sapir in 1927.
    • Scope and content: The Papers document Golla's work on the Hupa language in preparation for his doctoral dissertation, including field research conducted from 1962-1964. Ned Jackson and Louisa Jackson were his primary Hupa consultants; Golla also worked with Minnie Reeves and Rudolph Socktish.
