    • Historical information: Mauricio J. Mixco received a BA in linguistics in 1965 from the University of California, Berkeley, going on to receive a PhD in linguistics from the same university in 1971, with a dissertation supervised by Prof. Mary R. Haas titled "Kiliwa Grammar." He began working with speakers of Kiliwa in Baja California in 1966, with financial support from the Survey of California and Other Indian Languages. He writes the following about the people listed here as primary contributors, in his forthcoming reference grammar of the language (as of March 2021 to be published by the University of Sonora Press, used here with permission): "En la comunidad kiliwa, destacó Rufino Ochurte, de grata memoria, a quien le debo todo lo que compartió conmigo de lo que recordaba de la milenaria narrativa etnográfica kiliwa.
