    • Historical information: Atchan is a Kwa language spoken by the Tchaman people in and around Abidjan, the largest city and economic center of Côte d’Ivoire, which is built upon the Tchaman homeland. The language is commonly known by the exonym Ebrié in Côte d’Ivoire. The number of Atchan speakers is estimated at approximately 150,000. The Tchaman community is organized by village: the number of Tchaman villages in Abidjan today (March 2023) is estimated at 27. Ecological, economic, and sociopolitical pressures threaten the continued survival of Atchan, as French and Nouchi (a mixed language composed of elements from French and a number of Ivorian languages) have become the dominant languages of everyday use.
    • Scope and content: Materials from 2019 were developed by Katherine Russell and Hannah Sande while at Georgetown University. Materials from 2021 forward were developed by Katherine Russell and Rebecca Jarvis during their time as graduate students in linguistics at UC Berkeley. Materials from summer 2022 also include recordings collected by Julianne Kapner, another linguistics graduate student at UC Berkeley. Materials from summer 2023 include recordings collected by Lindsay Hatch, an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley. Materials include audio recordings of elicitation sessions and oral narratives, field notes, transcriptions, time-aligned TextGrids and ELAN .eaf files, and photos and videos documenting cultural practices. File bundles correspond to distinct elicitation sessions or events. File bundles are ordered chronologically, beginning in July 2021, with the exception of bundles containing materials from 2019. Materials from summer 2019, January 2022, summer 2022 and summer 2023 were collected in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. All other materials were collected remotely via Zoom: consultants were located in Abidjan, while elicitors were located in the United States.

    • Description: Re-doing picture book narration and picture naming tasks with Chrystelle and Marcel separated. Continuation of translation of Sydonie Mobio's stories (specifically the Moya story). Elicitation on long questions, coordination and extraction, pronominal binding, and strong crossover.
