Historical information:This collection is the product of a decade-long collaboration between speakers of Northern Paiute and Molly Babel, Michael Houser, and Maziar Toosarvandani. Their work together started during a graduate field methods class in 2005-2006 at the University of California, Berkeley. After 2010, Toosarvandani continued the collaboration alone. This work was supported by grants to Babel, Houser, and Toosarvandani from the Foundation for Endangered Languages and Sven and Astrid Liljeblad Endowment Fund (2008), as well as to Toosarvandani from the Jacobs Research Fund (2011, 2013, 2015), Phillips Fund (2011, 2013), Sven and Astrid Liljeblad Endowment (2011), and the Hellman Foundation (2015).
Scope and content:This collection comprises audio recordings of speakers of Northern Paiute from Mono Lake, Bridgeport, and Coleville in California, and from Sweetwater and Schurz in Nevada. Almost all of the recordings were made in Bridgeport or Coleville; a few audio recordings were made in Schurz with a speaker of the Walker River variety. The contents of the recordings include word elicitation, sentence elicitation, and texts. Words were elicited across numerous semantic domains, primarily based on speakers' interests. Sentence elicitation was targeted toward several areas of the grammar, including nominalization, clausal embedding, clause chaining, and aspect. Texts include both spontaneously produced traditional stories, personal histories, and procedural texts, as well as narratives prompted with picture books or English translations of traditional narratives.

We acknowledge with respect the Ohlone people on whose traditional, ancestral, and unceded land we work and whose historical relationships with that land continue to this day.
