Historical information: These recordings were produced by students of the field methods course in the Department of Linguistics at UC Berkeley between August 1986 and July 1987. The course was taught by Professor Leanne Hinton and the language consultant was Rafael Pascual. All other listed contributors were students in the course.
Scope and content: This collection consists of 121 digitized audio recordings that derive from elicitation sessions conducted during biweekly class meetings held throughout the course of the academic year.

Scope and content: The collection is organized into three series, which reflect the major types of materials in the collection. Series 1 contains grammatical and lexical notes on Potawatomi, along with field notes from Laura Welcher. Series 2 contains materials related to the work of Charles Hockett including field notes, lexical file slips, and texts. Series 3 contains a variety of materials collected by Laura Welcher, including field notes, educational materials, and historical documents relating to the Potawatomi language.

Historical information: Leanne Hinton is Professor Emerita in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley and a former Director of the Survey of California and Other Indian Languages. She received a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 1977. Her doctoral dissertation was a study of Havasupai songs. She has done research on various languages of the Southwest, Mexico, and California, and she has been a leading figure in the study of endangered languages and language revitalization.
Scope and content: The Papers consist primarily of Leanne Hinton's notes and related documents and recordings from linguistics field methods classes held at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Diego. This includes materials for Navajo, Quechua, Ashaninka Campa, Hopi, Q'anjob'al, K'ichean, Mixtec, Yowlumne Yokuts, Paraguayan Guaraní, and Yucatec Maya. Also included are materials related to the Yahi Translation Project.
