    • Historical information: Ndengeleko (alternative names: Ndengereko, Kindengeleko, Kindengereko) is a Bantu language spoken on the East Coast of Tanzania. Guthrie (1967/71) classifies Ndengeleko as P11. The most closely related language is Matuumbi (P13), with other P10 group languages being Ngindo (P14) and Mbunga (P15). Ndengeleko speakers in this region are multilingual in Swahili along with some English. Swahili is the lingua franca in Tanzania and it is used in primary and secondary education. Swahili and English are the official languages of Tanzania and are used in government. Data for this corpus are collected in the Rufiji region of Tanzania in the towns of Kibiti, Ikwiriri, and Mchukwi. This fieldwork is conducted by Tessa Scott as part of an ongoing project as a graduate student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley, with support from an Oswalt Endangered Language Grant.
